After Shari, our office manager, got called with her husband to serve as a mission president in Guatemala, Dr. Lohner and Dr. Jimmer of Lexington Heights Dental became aware of the huge need for dental treatment among the people in this Central American country.
In Guatemala, there is only one dentist for every 12,000 people, while here in Utah County, there is one dentist for every 800 people. In the U.S., an extraction will cost about $150 to $200. That same extraction procedure will cost the average Guatemalan two months of wages.
We work with the Hirsche Smiles Foundation to travel to Guatemala in March and bring dental services to the rural villages and orphanages there. Many of the people we will see have never met a real dentist in their entire life.
The money you donate goes directly to the Hirsche Smiles Foundation and will be used to fund our trip, paying for the needed equipment and dental supplies as well as housing and transportation.
